[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Gyeongbuk Province announced on the 5th that following the securing of 109.4 billion KRW in national funds last April through the drainage improvement project, the 'Sangju Yongpo District Multipurpose Rural Water Development Project' was selected as a new project by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs this year.
The 'Sangju Yongpo District Multipurpose Rural Water Development Project' is a project that will invest 47.6 billion KRW in national funds over 8 years to install one reservoir with a total storage capacity of 1,338,000 ㎥, one pumping station, and 14.4 km of water channels to supply agricultural water. After detailed design this year, the project is planned to be actively promoted starting next year.
Upon completion of this project, water supply is expected to be stabilized for farmland (239 hectares) in Yongpo-ri, Nakdong-myeon, Sangju City, and eight other villages, where water facilities have been vulnerable and securing stable water resources has been urgently needed due to rural water shortages.
Thus, not only securing national funds but also stable agricultural water supply and disaster prevention are expected to resolve the long-standing wishes of residents in the Sangju Yongpo area.
In addition, Gyeongbuk Province is currently carrying out multipurpose rural water development projects annually until 2028 in six districts including Yecheon Gamcheon District, covering 1,705 hectares. Regarding this, out of the total project cost of 229.4 billion KRW, 75.2 billion KRW had been spent by last year, and 27 billion KRW will be invested this year.
Kim Jongsu, Director of the Agriculture, Livestock and Distribution Bureau of Gyeongbuk Province, said, "With the project selected this time, it will be possible to supply not only agricultural water to overcome recurring drought damage every year but also various other water supplies," adding, "We will continue to promote rural water development and do our best to ensure stable agricultural water supply within the province."
