According to Hyundai Motor on the 5th, Hyundai's sales of eco-friendly vehicles in the U.S. reached 41,813 units through July this year, a sharp increase of 313.6% compared to the previous year.
In particular, last month’s retail sales rose by 399% compared to the same period last year, showing a continuous monthly increase in sales volume.
Kia also sold 19,320 eco-friendly vehicles in the U.S. this year, marking a 94.8% increase from the previous year.
Combined, the two companies sold 61,133 units, up 205.2% year-on-year. By type, hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) accounted for 50,610 units, up 205.3%, electric vehicles (EV) reached 13,360 units, up 207.7%, and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles increased by 103.3% to 187 units.
By model, the Ioniq (old model) HEV sold 11,441 units, and the Niro HEV sold 10,767 units. Recently introduced eco-friendly SUVs such as the Tucson, Santa Fe, and Sorento each sold approximately 4,000 to 7,000 units.
Hyundai plans to actively target the local EV market by launching the dedicated electric vehicle Ioniq 5 in the U.S. market in the future.
Sales of the luxury brand Genesis also increased significantly. According to Hyundai, Genesis sold 5,180 units in the U.S. last month, a 312.1% increase compared to the same period last year.
This is the first time monthly sales have exceeded 5,000 units, breaking sales records for three consecutive months since May.
