Cheonsuman 'High Water Temperature' Alert Issued... Chungnam Strives to Minimize On-Site Damage

[Asia Economy (Hongseong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] A high water temperature warning has been issued for the Cheonsuman area in the West Sea of Chungnam.

Chungnam Province announced on the 4th at 2 p.m. that a high water temperature warning had been issued for Cheonsuman and the southern coastal areas.

The high water temperature warning is issued by the National Institute of Fisheries Science when the sea water temperature remains at 28 degrees Celsius or higher for more than three days, according to the criteria for issuing high water temperature advisories.

The warning was issued based on the fact that the water temperature in Cheonsuman and the southern sea areas of Jeonnam and Gyeongnam recorded between 28.3 and 30.1 degrees Celsius, with forecasts indicating that the temperature may continue to rise.

With the high water temperature warning in effect, the province is mobilizing all efforts to minimize damage, centered on the currently operating "Cheonsuman High Water Temperature Damage Response Team."

First, the province will cooperate with the West Sea Fisheries Research Institute, city and county governments to prohibit the sorting and movement of fish in aquaculture farms around Cheonsuman, encourage the suspension of feed supply, and strengthen on-site guidance and inspections.

Additionally, preemptive measures such as 24-hour supply of liquefied oxygen, installation of shade nets, and ensuring water flow will be implemented.

In case of damage to aquaculture farms, the province plans to conduct joint damage surveys and support recovery efforts, including assistance to fishermen, by assessing the damage situation by city and county.

Jo Won-gap, Director of the Marine Fisheries Bureau of the province, said, "With the high water temperature warning issued, we ask aquaculture farms to actively respond to minimize fish damage," and added, "We also request attention and cooperation for the activities of the on-site response team."
