[Asia Economy Reporter Junhyung Lee] The Small and Medium Business Technology Information Promotion Agency (TIPA) announced on the 5th that it is recruiting small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to carry out the first phase of the '2021 Materials, Parts, and Equipment Strategic Cooperation Technology Development Project,' called the 'R&D Joint Planning Task.' The application period is until the 23rd of this month.
The Materials, Parts, and Equipment Strategic Cooperation Technology Development Project is a newly established initiative by TIPA this year to create an environment where SMEs in the materials, parts, and equipment sector can collaborate with universities and research institutes. Through this project, TIPA supports SMEs to freely utilize technologies, infrastructure, and personnel possessed by universities and research institutes during the technology development process.
TIPA plans to select about 30 SMEs to carry out the first phase, the R&D Joint Planning Task. The selected companies will jointly plan technology development with the operating institutions for the second phase, Strategic Cooperation R&D, over a period of two months. Two institutions, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) and Korea Electronics Technology Institute (KETI), will participate as operating institutions.
After completing the R&D joint planning, TIPA will comprehensively evaluate technological feasibility and other factors to finally select 20 SMEs to carry out the second phase. The final selected companies can receive funding of up to 1.2 billion KRW over a maximum of three years.
Lee Jae-hong, President of TIPA, stated, "By solidifying the industry-academia-research cooperation system and enhancing the technological competitiveness of SMEs, this will serve as a driving force to rapidly realize technological independence in the materials, parts, and equipment industry."
