Jin Joong-kwon on Yoon's 'Femi' Remark: "Approval Ratings Dropping... Crossed the Line"

Jin Joong-kwon on Yoon's 'Femi' Remark: "Approval Ratings Dropping... Crossed the Line"

[Asia Economy Reporter Yoon Seul-gi] Former Dongyang University professor Jin Joong-kwon criticized former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol for pointing to feminism as the cause of low birth rates, saying, "This is an unforgivable remark, especially from the perspective of the moderate middle ground, particularly women."

On the night of the 3rd, on CBS Radio's 'Hanpan Seungbu,' Jin said regarding Yoon's comment at a meeting of first-term lawmakers of the People Power Party about the causes of low birth rates, "Feminism has been politically exploited to the extent that it emotionally blocks healthy relationships between men and women, and socially, the conditions for having and raising children are very unfavorable," that "he crossed the line," adding, "This is a very serious matter that could lead to withdrawal of support."

He continued, "For example, views on individualism or liberalism may differ depending on whether one is progressive or conservative," but "this issue is a matter of social common sense."

Regarding Yoon's claim of advocating 'healthy feminism,' Jin said, "What is healthy feminism, and who defines it?" He added, "Men cannot define this," and criticized, "Men have a history of suppressing women's rights, so they cannot conduct feminist movements based on whether feminism is healthy or not."

Furthermore, Jin said, "If this is an election strategy, that itself is bad, but if it is his personal conviction, it is an even bigger problem," and added, "It seems (Yoon) does not realize that this is a serious issue."

Meanwhile, Jin suggested that the reason Yoon made the 'feminism' remark might be "the aftermath or negative impact of Lee Jun-seok's election as party leader." He continued, "He is appealing to 2030 men by conveying his feelings about feminism. It seems he thinks it is advantageous to appeal to the politically stronger side rather than politically weaker women," and pointed out, "This is a misguided thought."
