[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyun-joo] 'The pride of American gymnastics' Simone Biles (24, USA) won a valuable bronze medal. On the 3rd, at the women's artistic gymnastics balance beam final held at Ariake Gymnastics Centre in Tokyo, Japan, she scored 14.000 points, finishing third behind Guan Chenchen (14.633 points) and Tang Xijing (14.233 points, both from China). Following the team event, she secured her second medal, increasing her total Olympic medal count to seven (4 gold, 1 silver, 2 bronze).
Biles, who won four gold medals at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games, was expected to dominate all artistic gymnastics events at this competition. She qualified for the finals in all six events: team, all-around, vault, uneven bars, balance beam, and floor exercise. However, on the 27th of last month, she received a lower-than-expected score in the vault final of the team event, which caused her to struggle under the pressure of expectations. She withdrew from the remaining five events but regained her composure and decided to compete in the balance beam final, where she earned the valuable bronze medal.
