[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] On the 3rd, the camp of Lee Jae-myung, the leading presidential candidate from the ruling party and Governor of Gyeonggi Province, reported Oh Young-hoon, chief spokesperson of former representative Lee Nak-yeon's camp and a party primary competitor, to the party's election commission and ethics inspection team.

Lee's camp stated on the 3rd, "Oh Young-hoon violated the Public Official Election Act and party ethical standards by falsely claiming that Lee used Gyeonggi Province vehicles or funds to engage in illegal primary election campaigning. This has damaged Lee's honor and undermined the credibility and fairness of the primary election," and also called for Oh's resignation as chief spokesperson.

Furthermore, Lee's camp urged, "There is rampant self-destructive, reckless negative campaigning that lowers the Democratic Party's standards and destroys public trust. Such tactics must not be tolerated as they further muddy the primary election. Firm measures are necessary."

Previously, Oh Young-hoon claimed in a statement that Lee, while maintaining his position as Governor of Gyeonggi Province and conducting a nationwide tour, was using Gyeonggi residents' tax money for election campaign fuel costs and vehicle maintenance expenses.

In response, Lee's camp refuted this as "an absurd falsehood." Park Chan-dae, chief spokesperson for Lee's campaign, said, "Lee spends all costs outside official duties entirely from political funds. Not a single penny of Gyeonggi residents' tax money has been used, nor will it be."
