Second Doping Case at Tokyo Olympics... Failed to Participate in Qualifiers
Georgian shot putter Benik Avramian (36) was caught in a doping test and will not be able to compete on the Olympic stage. According to foreign media including Reuters, Avramian tested positive for steroids in a pre-test conducted on the 3rd, ahead of the men's shot put qualifiers at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The independent doping control organization, which conducted the test on the 31st of last month, stated, "The athlete has been notified of the fact, and his eligibility to compete is temporarily suspended until the issue is resolved." This is the second doping case detected at the Tokyo Olympics. Nigerian sprinter Blessing Okagbare (33) was disqualified after testing positive for growth hormone on the 31st of last month. Avramian, who has now added to the dishonor, holds the Georgian shot put record with a distance of 21.11 meters.
