President Moon: "Expanding Social Safety Nets for Athletes, Timely Legislation During the Olympic Period"

Presiding over the Cabinet Meeting at Cheongwadae... "Increase in Security Personnel for Private Residence Must Be Carefully Reviewed as It Uses Public Taxes"

[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Jeong-min] On the 3rd, President Moon Jae-in presided over a Cabinet meeting at the Blue House and stated regarding the promulgation of the 'Sports Welfare Act', "It is timely that this meaningful legislation, which serves as the foundation for expanding the social safety net for athletes, was enacted during the Olympic period."

President Moon asked, "Since this law serves as a stepping stone for athletes to have a second act in life after retirement, please ensure thorough preparation in the establishment of subordinate statutes," according to Blue House spokesperson Park Kyung-mi.

Regarding the 'Tourism Promotion Development Fund Act and Partial Amendment to the Tourism Promotion Act', President Moon said, "This law aims to help the tourism industry, which has been severely affected by COVID-19 for a long time, regain strength and vitality. Relevant ministries should pay special attention to ensure practical support is provided."

Regarding the 'Partial Amendment to the Enforcement Decree of the Environmental Impact Assessment Act', President Moon said, "While this decree, which centralizes the authority for environmental impact assessment consultations in wind power development projects to the Minister of Environment to ensure promptness, is important, recently it has taken a long time to consult with residents. Therefore, it is desirable to conduct environmental impact assessments and consultations with residents simultaneously."

President Moon emphasized, "In expanding renewable energy, the key is residents' acceptance, so efforts should be made to persuade local residents and increase their participation."

Regarding the 'Partial Amendment to the Organization Decree of the Presidential Security Service and Its Affiliated Agencies', President Moon instructed, "The increase in security personnel for presidential residence protection within the Presidential Security Service is due to the abolition of the police auxiliary service, transferring duties previously handled by them to the Security Service. Since taxpayers' money is being used, carefully review and consider ways to operate efficiently."
