Jeonnam Police Strengthen Crackdown on Unlicensed and Drunk Driving of Electric Kickboards and Personal Mobility Devices

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] The Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency announced on the 3rd that as of the 31st of last month, a total of 25 personal mobility device-related traffic accidents occurred in the Jeonnam area, injuring 30 people, and urged everyone to strictly follow safety rules when using personal mobility devices such as electric kickboards.

To use personal mobility devices, it is mandatory to obtain a motorized bicycle license, and drunk driving is prohibited.

Violations such as drunk driving and driving without a license will incur fines of 100,000 KRW, refusal to undergo a breathalyzer test will result in a fine of 130,000 KRW, and administrative penalties related to licenses (license suspension or cancellation, etc.) will also be applied.

It is principle to use bicycle lanes on the road, and where there are no bicycle lanes, users must travel safely along the right edge of the road. Walking on sidewalks is prohibited to ensure pedestrian safety.

In particular, riding an electric kickboard with two people or riding without wearing a helmet during hot summer weather can lead to serious injuries in the event of a traffic accident, so it is essential to comply with the number of riders and wear a helmet.

A Jeonnam police official stated, “We plan to strengthen crackdowns on drunk driving and unlicensed driving, which pose a high risk of traffic accidents involving personal mobility devices, and we urge everyone to strictly follow safety rules and traffic regulations related to personal mobility devices.”
