Despite Domestic Demand Decline, 'Exports' Perform Well
[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] Renault Samsung Motors announced on the 2nd that it sold 11,033 units in July. This represents a 24% increase compared to the same month last year.
Domestic sales recorded 4,958 units, a 21% decrease. The mid-size sport utility vehicle (SUV) QM6 led overall performance with 3,189 units sold, and the LPG model QM6 LPe accounted for 64% of total sales. Additionally, the XM3 sold 1,280 units, affected by a reduction in production days due to the semiconductor supply shortage.
Among Renault brand models, sales improvements were notable for the Master and Zoe. Last month, the Master bus model sold 57 units, a 24% increase compared to the previous month, and the Zoe sold 117 units, a 17% increase.
Exports increased by 132% to 6,075 units as the XM3's entry into the European market gained momentum. The XM3 (European export name 'New Arkana') began full-scale sales in 28 European countries in June and is reportedly receiving favorable reviews locally.
A Renault Samsung official stated, "The XM3 is experiencing increased demand both domestically and internationally due to its excellent quality and price competitiveness," adding, "If stable production volume is maintained in the second half of the year, it is expected to significantly contribute to increased production at the Busan plant."
