Yeosu-si Lifts 'Emergency Movement Stop'


[Yeosu=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Sim Kyung-taek] Jeonnam Yeosu City lifted the 'Yeosu Citizens' Emergency Movement Stop Week' operated to prevent the spread of the Delta variant virus and resumed the operation of public facilities from the 2nd.


According to Yeosu City on the 2nd, as a result of operating the 'Yeosu Citizens' Emergency Movement Stop Week' for one week from the 26th to 10 a.m. on August 1st, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases decreased by 56 from 78 the previous week to 22, a 71.8% reduction.


In particular, among the 22 confirmed cases during this period, 13 were cases that occurred during self-quarantine, 2 were overseas entrants, and the remaining 7 were 5 contacts with confirmed cases and 2 other symptomatic individuals.


During the movement stop period, the amount of movement of people and vehicles analyzed by the CCTV Integrated Control Center for five weekdays excluding weekends decreased by 13.2% compared to the previous week. The usage rate of major parking lots in the city decreased by 3%, and the number of visitors to major tourist attractions Odongdo and Hyangiram decreased by 19.8%.


Mayor Kwon Oh-bong of Yeosu said, “I sincerely thank the citizens and small business owners who endured inconvenience for a week and actively cooperated with the movement stop,” and added, “I am relieved to inform you that the operation of public facilities has resumed and the movement stop has been lifted from the 2nd.”


He continued, “As the nationwide spread due to the variant virus has recorded over a thousand cases for 26 consecutive days, the government’s level 3 measures will be maintained until the 8th,” and urged, “Please refrain from visiting other regions and use places with separate spaces to minimize infection during unavoidable gatherings, and actively participate in vaccination.”


Meanwhile, according to the government’s policy to implement level 3 measures in non-metropolitan areas, Yeosu City prohibits drinking and eating from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. until August 8th at open beaches, marine parks, Jonghwa-dong wharf, and Hamel Lighthouse area.
