[Namwon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeong Young-kwon] Namwon City, Jeonbuk (Mayor Lee Hwan-joo) announced on the 2nd that it will promote the ‘Urban School Eco-friendly Agriculture Practice Project’ until December.
This project was promoted to provide urban students with opportunities to learn emotional cultivation and the value of life and the environment through rural experiences, and to expand stable sales channels for eco-friendly agricultural products to eco-friendly farmers.
The project is carried out annually, and this year, Namnong Agricultural Cooperative is promoting the project for 16 schools including Seongbuk Elementary School in Seoul metropolitan area, while Namwon Wonhyup Cooperative is promoting the rice paddy creation project within schools for 19 places including Yonsei Daycare Center.
Also, 100-200 rubber pots are prepared in vacant lots within urban schools, and students become farmers for a day to touch the soil with their small hands and experience rice planting, recreating a small rural scene in the city.
Through this project, the city plans to provide opportunities for elementary school and daycare students to observe and manage the growth process of rice, and in autumn, to experience the entire harvesting process including rice cutting, threshing, and milling through harvest events.
A city official said, “Through this project, urban students will not only understand the importance of agriculture and rural areas and appreciate food, but also expect to strengthen the competitiveness of local agricultural products by promoting high-quality eco-friendly agricultural products in the region.”
