Hyundai Construction Wins Four Awards at Singapore 'WSH Awards 2021'


[Asia Economy Reporter Kangwook Cho] Hyundai Engineering & Construction won four awards at the ‘Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) Awards 2021’ organized by the Workplace Safety and Health Council under the Ministry of Manpower of Singapore.


Hyundai Engineering & Construction announced on the 2nd that it received a silver award in the ‘WSH Performance Awards’ category, and three sites ? ‘Tuas Finger One Land Reclamation Project,’ ‘Tekong Island Land Reclamation Project Phase 2,’ and ‘Punggol Sports Centre’ ? received the ‘WSH Sharp Awards.’


The ‘WSH Performance Awards’ received by Hyundai Engineering & Construction is awarded to companies that demonstrate the best safety and health management performance across all industries in Singapore. It is a prestigious award given to only about 20 companies out of approximately 3,600 construction companies in Singapore.


Additionally, the three sites of Hyundai Engineering & Construction that received the ‘WSH Sharp Awards’ are projects that have achieved zero accidents or at least 750,000 accident-free hours. This award is the highest authority in safety-related awards and is given annually by the Workplace Safety and Health Council to organizations or individuals who have shown outstanding performance in the field of safety and health.


Hyundai Engineering & Construction was also honored in 2019 with three sites selected for the ‘WSH Sharp Awards,’ followed by winning the highest gold award in the ‘WSH Innovation Awards’ category in 2020 for the ‘Tuas Finger 3 Land Reclamation Project,’ and this year achieved the distinction of winning four awards in total.


Since 1997, Hyundai Engineering & Construction has won a total of 45 awards in five categories at the Construction Excellence Awards hosted by the Singapore government, and with this latest award, it has won a total of 14 times at the ‘WSH Awards’ hosted by the Workplace Safety and Health Council, solidifying Hyundai Engineering & Construction’s reputation in Singapore. Construction companies that achieve excellent results in the ‘WSH Awards’ receive additional points when bidding for new projects in Singapore.


A Hyundai Engineering & Construction official said, "This award once again proves the excellence of our overseas projects’ safety and health management, and firmly establishes our position to potential clients and external organizations as a global top construction company," adding, "We will continue to faithfully fulfill our role and responsibility as a global company based on excellent technological capabilities."


Meanwhile, Hyundai Engineering & Construction first entered Singapore in 1981 and has secured a total of 91 projects worth $15.2 billion, including ‘Pasir Panjang Terminal Phases 3 & 4,’ ‘Marina South Integrated Development Project,’ and ‘Undersea Oil Terminal.’ Currently, it is carrying out 11 civil engineering and architectural projects worth $2.1 billion.
