[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Jiwon] Six companies including Fasto, Hanjin, CJ Logistics, Logisvalley SLK, Logisvalley Cheonma, and Hanaro TNS have had their logistics facilities certified as Korea's first smart logistics centers.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 2nd that it introduced a smart logistics center certification system to promote private investment in advanced logistics facilities with excellent efficiency and safety, and certified six logistics facilities for the first time.
This smart logistics center certification was finalized through document and on-site inspections by the certification body, Korea Transport Institute, and a certification review committee consisting of the Ministry of Land, industry representatives, and experts.
Certification grades were assigned from 1 to 5 based on the level of advancement and automation of the facilities. For parcel terminals, the degree of automation replacing labor-intensive sorting tasks was primarily evaluated.
Facilities and management systems for fire and safety accident response, rest areas, and safe working environments such as appropriate temperature and humidity were also evaluated.
Certified facilities can receive government interest cost support when borrowing business funds necessary for facility investment.
Fasto's 'Yongin1 Center,' which received a preliminary certification grade 1, developed its own AI-based logistics operation optimization system and plans to link an automated warehouse system (Autostore) where robots automatically pick products, a cutting-edge sorter (SureSort), and autonomous mobile robots, introduced for the first time by a logistics startup.
Logisvalley SLK and Logisvalley Cheonma's Ansan Centers, which received grade 3, improved volume processing efficiency and work accuracy through automatic labelers, conveyors for garment hangers, automated sorting systems (PAS), and robotic pallet stacking equipment.
Hanaro TNS's 'Dongtan Logistics Center' developed its own logistics system (WINS) that integrates and synchronizes headquarters and domestic and international bases in real time, receiving grade 5.
CJ Logistics and Hanjin's mega hub terminals both received grade 1. CJ Logistics' 'Mega Hub Gonjiam' is the largest parcel terminal in Asia, processing 1.75 million parcels daily through state-of-the-art automated sorters.
Hanjin received preliminary certification for the 'Daejeon Mega Hub Terminal,' scheduled for completion in 2022, with plans to automate the entire process from unloading to loading.
The Ministry of Land plans to continue accepting certification applications at all times and expand support for excellent advanced logistics facilities. Application methods and detailed information can be found on the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport website and the Korea Transport Institute website.
