[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] The UK government has partnered with ride-sharing service Uber and food delivery platform Deliveroo to increase COVID-19 vaccination rates among young people.

The British daily The Guardian reported on the 1st (local time), "The government has decided to offer incentives to raise vaccination rates ahead of the reopening of schools and offices."

In addition to Uber and Deliveroo, companies partnered with the UK government include taxi app Bolt and pizza company Pizza Pilgrims.

People who book vaccines through the National Health Service (NHS) will receive discount codes or vouchers from companies partnered with the government.

Uber and Uber Eats will offer discounts to vaccinated individuals starting this month. Bolt will provide free rides to vaccination centers. The UK government stated, "More companies will be added."

The reason the UK is offering vaccine incentives is that vaccination rates among young people are relatively low. While the overall population's first-dose vaccination rate reaches 88.5%, only 67% of those aged 18 to 29 have been vaccinated.

Sajid Javid, the UK Health Secretary, said, "Vaccines protect not only those vaccinated but also their families and communities," adding, "Get vaccinated and go out to enjoy the incentives."
