[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] With 26 new COVID-19 cases in Daegu and 31 in Gyeongbuk, sporadic chain infections continue in the Daegu-Gyeongbuk region.


Daegu City announced that as of midnight on the 2nd, 26 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed. The cumulative number of confirmed cases has increased to 11,718.


There are 5 cases in Buk-gu, 4 each in Nam-gu, Seo-gu, and Suseong-gu, 3 in Dalseo-gu, 2 each in Dong-gu and Dalseong-gun, and 1 each linked to other regions including Seoul and Sejong.


Among these, 2 cases are related to Seomun Market in Jung-gu. Since a merchant on the second floor of Dongsan Shopping Center in the market was confirmed positive on the 26th of last month, the virus has spread to market merchants and customers, bringing the cumulative number of confirmed cases to 15.


One case each was confirmed related to previously occurring cluster infections at a foreign grocery store in Jung-gu, a gym in Beomeo-dong, Suseong-gu, a church in Bisan-dong, Seo-gu, and an auto parts company in Dalseo-gu.


Eight cases are of unknown origin, and health authorities are conducting epidemiological investigations.


Additionally, 12 cases were identified as contacts of confirmed patients in Daegu, Gyeongsan, Gumi, and Cheongdo.


Gyeongbuk Province reported a total of 31 new confirmed cases.


By region, there are 9 in Gumi, 7 in Pohang, 6 in Gyeongsan, 3 in Gyeongju, and 2 each in Cheongdo, Bonghwa, and Chilgok.


In Gyeongbuk, 183 domestic cases were reported in the past week, with a weekly daily average of 26.1 new confirmed cases, and currently 3,543 people are under self-quarantine.
