[Asia Economy Military Specialist Yang Nak-gyu] There has been an allegation that personnel were stationed at the firing line during shooting training to prevent the loss of shell casings.

According to a report posted on February 2 on the Facebook page 'Army Training Center Instead of You (hereafter YookDaeJeon),' the commander of Battalion A of the Marine Corps 1st Division placed a non-commissioned officer (sergeant) in a pit in front of the firing line at the shooting range last November and conducted test firing. It is said that Battalion A’s commander deployed the personnel to accurately identify the bullet impact points as shell casings kept getting lost during the shooting training.

The person who posted the report on YookDaeJeon claimed, "During Battalion A commander’s mission period with the Jeju Rapid Deployment Unit last year, he toured the entire Olle Trail on holidays using a courtesy vehicle, and during the joint landing exercise in April, he bought sushi alone to eat. Despite reporting so many irregularities, he continues to hold the position of battalion commander."

In response, the Marine Corps 1st Division explained, "Upon receiving the report through the unit’s communication box, we immediately verified the facts, issued a written warning to the battalion commander and a warning to the battalion staff, and notified the unit members of the related misconduct and measures taken."

The Marine Corps 1st Division added, "Some matters are currently under disciplinary procedures following an investigation by the legal office. To prevent recurrence of abnormal command behavior, we will strictly and lawfully handle and take measures against the involved personnel and the unit."
