[Asia Economy (Sejong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Sejong City announced on the 2nd that it will supply an additional 123 electric vehicles in the second half of this year.
Earlier, the city secured a budget of 3.8 billion KRW for electric vehicle supply in the first half of this year and has been supplying 357 electric vehicles since February. As of the end of last month, the electric vehicle application rate stands at 59%.
Among these, electric cargo vehicles and electric two-wheelers classified as livelihood vehicles have already exhausted their subsidies due to high demand from citizens.
Accordingly, the city secured an additional budget for supplying 123 electric vehicles in the first half of this year, including 50 electric cargo vehicles and 73 electric two-wheelers, to accelerate the transition to zero-emission vehicles in the commercial sector such as cargo trucks and delivery two-wheelers, which have significant environmental improvement effects.
The subsidy application period for the second half of the year is from the 5th of this month to December 6.
However, the city plans to close subsidy applications early once the budget is exhausted. Applications for general and priority support quotas will be accepted until the 31st of this month, and from the 1st of next month, applications will proceed in an integrated manner within the remaining quota.
The eligible vehicle models are 105 government-designated models, including 77 electric two-wheelers and 28 electric cargo vehicles that have completed the Ministry of Environment's certification process.
The subsidy amount varies by vehicle type. For example, a 1-ton small electric cargo vehicle will receive a subsidy of 19 million KRW, and electric two-wheelers will receive subsidies ranging from 1.2 million KRW to 3.3 million KRW.
Electric vehicle buyers must visit a car dealership (agency) where their desired model is available, sign a purchase contract, and then complete and submit the purchase support application form through the dealership.
Applicants must be citizens aged 18 or older with an address in Sejong, as well as companies, corporations, and public institutions.
The city will review the applications, grant purchase eligibility to qualified applicants, and confirm subsidy eligibility at the time of vehicle delivery to finalize the subsidy recipients.
For more detailed information regarding electric vehicle purchase subsidies, please refer to the announcements posted on the city’s website or the Ministry of Environment’s Low Emission Vehicle Integrated Website.
Yoon Bong-hee, head of the city’s Environmental Policy Division, stated, “As government regulations on old diesel vehicles are strengthened, demand for eco-friendly vehicles is increasing. The city will increase the supply of electric cargo vehicles and electric two-wheelers, which have high livelihood demand, while continuously reducing old diesel vehicles to improve fine dust levels and air quality.”
