[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] On Sunday the 1st, most regions nationwide will be mostly cloudy with rain. In Seoul, rain will begin around 10 a.m.

On this day, the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) announced that since 8:40 a.m., there has been rain mainly along the central west coast, with sporadic raindrops falling in the metropolitan area, inland Chungnam, and western Gyeongnam.

The KMA forecasted that the rain cloud band generated under the influence of a pressure trough over the West Sea is moving northeast at 35 km/h, causing rain around 10 a.m. in Seoul, which will gradually expand to the metropolitan area, inland Chungnam, and western Jeonbuk thereafter.

Rain will fall in most regions nationwide until night, but some areas in the central inland will experience a lull until 3 p.m., and significant differences in precipitation amounts between regions are expected.

In the afternoon (12 p.m. to 6 p.m.), rain cloud bands will locally develop strongly in inland Chungcheong, inland and mountainous Gangwon, and southern regions, bringing very heavy rain of around 50 mm per hour accompanied by gusts, thunder, and lightning.

The expected precipitation on the 1st is 20 to 70 mm nationwide including Jeju Island and the five West Sea islands, with some areas exceeding 100 mm. The East Coast and southern coast of Gyeongnam will receive 5 to 40 mm.

The expected precipitation on the 2nd is also 20 to 70 mm nationwide, with 5 to 40 mm on the East Coast, southern Gyeongnam coast, Jeju Island, Ulleungdo, and Dokdo. Strong localized rain is expected in most regions nationwide until the 2nd, raising concerns about significant damage.

The KMA advised, "Rain or showers falling in the upper reaches of valleys or rivers can cause sudden flooding downstream, so camping should be avoided, and caution is needed for flooding in low-lying areas, river overflows, and rapid currents." They also warned, "There is a high possibility of sewer or drainage collapse, construction site retaining wall failure, and landslides, and attention should be paid to electric shock accidents in flooded areas and vehicle engine stalls."

Heatwave warnings are in effect for most regions nationwide. The highest daytime temperature on the 1st is expected to be 29 to 34 degrees Celsius, with the perceived temperature rising above 35 degrees in the Gyeongsang area, making it very hot. The lowest morning temperature on the 2nd is expected to be 23 to 26 degrees, and the highest daytime temperature 29 to 33 degrees.

The KMA explained, "Although temperatures may drop in some areas due to rain or showers, high humidity will cause the perceived temperature to rise above 33 degrees, so heatwave warnings will remain in effect," adding, "There is a possibility that heatwave warnings in western regions and Gangwon will be downgraded to heatwave advisories."
