Convenient Slope Use Without Waiting Time Due to Reduced Congestion
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] #To use personal water leisure equipment such as canoes, kayaks, and motorboats on the Han River, you must launch the equipment into the water at a designated ‘slope.’ This process usually takes about 20 minutes, but during peak season peak hours, about 40 vehicles gather at once, causing indefinite waiting or having to turn back. The long lines of vehicles also posed a safety risk to park visitors.
On the 1st, the Seoul Metropolitan Government Han River Project Headquarters announced that to resolve these inconveniences for citizens, they will pilot a ‘reservation system’ at Banpo and Mangwon Han River Parks, where slope users are many. Currently, among the total 11 Han River parks in Seoul, there are 5 parks with water leisure slopes available for citizens: Jamsil, Ichon, Yeouido, Banpo, and Mangwon.
By assigning dates and times to citizens who make reservations in advance, user congestion can be dispersed to prevent crowding at once. The slopes can be used by up to 3 people per hour from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily, allowing a maximum of 45 users per day.
Citizens who wish to use the slopes can make advance reservations starting from the 16th through the Seoul Public Service Reservation website. After searching for ‘slope,’ the reservation page will appear, where users can select their desired date and apply. Then, at each park’s information center, users must present their license and fill out a personal water leisure activity report.
Seoul expects that by reducing congestion through advance reservations, citizens will be able to conveniently use the slopes without waiting time, and safety accidents will be prevented, allowing park visitors to enjoy rest and leisure more safely in the parks.
Hwang In-sik, head of the Seoul Han River Project Headquarters, said, “Han River Park is a pleasant resting place and a water leisure landmark for ten million citizens,” adding, “We will continuously consider and improve ways for both water leisure users and park visitors to use Han River Park without inconvenience.”
