[Asia Economy Reporter Hyesook Park] Inha University is promoting the establishment of the 'Gimpo Medical Campus' and a state-of-the-art university hospital in the Pungmu Station area urban development project district in Gimpo-si, Gyeonggi Province.

On the 31st, according to Inha University, the school foundation Jeongseok Inha Academy, Inha University, Inha University Hospital, Gimpo City, Gimpo Urban Management Corporation, and Pungmu Station Area Development Co., Ltd. signed a 'Comprehensive Mutual Cooperation Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the Establishment of Inha University Gimpo Medical Campus' at Gimpo City Hall the day before.

The signing ceremony was attended by Hyun Jeong-taek, Chairman of Jeongseok Inha Academy, Cho Myung-woo, President of Inha University, Kim Young-mo, Director of Inha University Hospital, and Jung Ha-young, Mayor of Gimpo.

Through the agreement, the six organizations formed a consultative body for the establishment of the Gimpo Medical Campus, promising mutual cooperation and support to successfully promote the project and develop Gimpo City into a self-sufficient city in education and medical care through the Gimpo Medical Campus.

The construction of the (tentatively named) Inha Gimpo Medical Campus is scheduled to begin in 2024. On 90,000㎡ of university land in the Pungmu Station area urban development project in Gimpo City, educational facilities that provide educational services tailored to the life cycle of local residents and align with regional development plans will be established, aiming to build a health sciences university (graduate school) and a top-tier university hospital in Korea.

The university hospital will have a scale of over 700 beds, and plans to grow into a representative base hospital for the northwestern region of Gyeonggi Province, providing high-quality customized medical services to the citizens of Gimpo.

Gimpo City plans to establish a cooperative system with Inha University and develop collaborative projects in various fields such as higher education, economy, and medical care to create a win-win strategy for the region, the university, and the hospital.

Cho Myung-woo, President of Inha University, said, "The Inha Gimpo Medical Campus will provide regionally tailored medical services and contribute to the citizens of Gimpo and the local community," adding, "We will focus all our capabilities on creating medical projects and educational environments befitting Gimpo City, the city with the highest population growth rate nationwide, and on becoming a leading medical education hub in East Asia."
