Changwon District Court Sentences Father and Son to Prison for Violence Against Man Who Cut Trees on Their Own Field
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] A father and son who assaulted a man with a blunt weapon after a dispute over cutting down a tree in their field were sentenced to imprisonment and fines.
On the 31st, according to Changwon District Court, Criminal Division 4 (Judge An Jwajin) sentenced Mr. A, in his 60s, to 9 months in prison for assault (special injury) against a man in his 40s who cut down a tree on his own field.
The son, Mr. B, in his 40s, who participated in the crime, was fined 700,000 won.
On September 30th last year, around 5:10 p.m., Mr. A had an argument with Mr. C (in his 40s) in a field in Uichang-gu, Changwon City, after Mr. C cut down a tree.
Mr. A, emotionally agitated, assaulted Mr. C with his fists and a blunt weapon. Unable to control his anger, Mr. A called his son Mr. B, and together they beat Mr. C severely, causing injuries that required six weeks of treatment.
The court stated the sentencing reasons, saying, "This is a case where the defendant became angry over a trivial matter and inflicted injury with a dangerous object, showing poor criminal nature, and the victim's injuries are not minor. The victim and his family suffered shock severe enough to disrupt their daily lives."
