"'Water, Shade, Rest' - Please Follow the 3 Key Rules to Prevent Heatstroke"
[Haenam＝Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] Jeonnam Haenam-gun (Governor Myung Hyun-gwan) announced on the 31st that it has taken measures against the scorching heat at various construction sites amid the continuous heatwave.
With heatwave warnings expected to continue from late July to mid-August, there are concerns about casualties and safety accidents at construction sites where many workers perform outdoor duties. Therefore, management is being strengthened to ensure thorough compliance with heatwave countermeasures.
Accordingly, safety management education for construction work is being conducted, while surveillance activities for worker safety are being intensified. The three basic rules for preventing heatstroke?‘water, shade, rest’?and heatwave response guidelines have been disseminated to each construction site.
During heatwave warnings, rest periods are operated from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., with 10 to 15 minutes of rest recommended for every hour of work. It is also advised to secure rest areas (install shade tents), set up fans, and provide ice and cold water.
A county official stated, “As the heat continues day after day, it is especially important to pay attention to safety management, such as drinking water frequently and resting in cool places,” adding, “We will make our safety measures more thorough to prevent workers at the sites from suffering due to the scorching heat.”
In addition, Haenam-gun is strengthening management to ensure that workers residing outside the county who are deployed to construction sites within Haenam-gun receive free COVID-19 testing at their place of residence before coming, to prevent and contain the spread of COVID-19 at construction sites.
