[Asia Economy Reporter Na Yeeun] A video showing a man practicing golf facing the sea at a beach in Ulsan has sparked controversy.
On the 30th, an online community, Bobae Dream, posted a video and a post titled "Ulsan Jinha Beach OOO Golf Man."
In the video, a man is hitting golf balls toward the sea without wearing a mask. There are several people surfing in the sea in the direction where the man is hitting the golf balls, posing a potential risk of being hit by the balls.
The man sarcastically responded to comments on a surfing community asking, "Do you have any intention to apologize?" with "To whom? To the fish in the sea?" He also showed no remorse, saying things like "I should go pick up the balls in the sea," and "I will improve my tee shot skills!"
Netizens criticized the man, saying, "I'm scared I might get hit by a golf ball passing by nearby," "I have no words," "There are many kinds of irrational behavior," and "The biggest fault is not knowing that what you did was wrong."
The author, Mr. A, said, "At Ulsan Jinha Beach, there was a person blatantly hitting golf balls toward the sea whether people were there or not, so I posted it on a surfing community," adding, "However, instead of reflecting or repenting, the responses were ridiculous."
In response, a Ulsan Coast Guard official said, "Although it is not a common occurrence, we will strengthen crackdowns together with local governments to prevent water-related safety accidents."
Earlier in May, two men in their 40s practicing golf by hitting balls toward the sea at a coastal area in Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do, were fined. At that time, a nearby resident who could not tolerate the behavior reported them to the police.
The police who received the case handed it over to the Dadohaehaesang National Park, and the park authorities applied a violation of the Natural Parks Act and requested Goheung-gun to impose a fine of 100,000 won on them.
