Rising star in women's archery, An San (20, Gwangju Women's University), is just one win away from an Olympic individual gold medal. On the 30th, at the archery venue in Yumenoshima Park, Tokyo, she defeated the United States' Mackenzie Brown in a shoot-off during the women's individual semifinals at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Having already won gold medals in the mixed team and women's team events, An San now continues her historic pursuit of becoming the first archer to win three Olympic gold medals.

The match against Brown was the toughest challenge for An San in this tournament. Despite shooting 28 points including one perfect 10 in the first set, she trailed by one point. In the second set, An San hit three perfect 10s, setting the stage for a comeback. She continued her streak of 10s in the third set, successfully turning the set score around to 4-2. Brown was not easily defeated either; in the fourth set, she shot three perfect 10s, leveling the match once again.

The final fifth set also failed to decide the winner. Both archers shot two 9s and one 10. In the ensuing shoot-off, An San calmly placed a single arrow in the 10-point ring. Brown scored 9 points, pushing her into the bronze medal match.
