The team, consisting of Park Sang-young (26), Kwon Young-jun (34), Ma Se-gun (27), and Song Jae-ho (31), defeated Switzerland 44-39 in the men's ?p?e team quarterfinals held on the 30th at Makuhari Messe Hall in Chiba, Tokyo.
In the first round, Park Sang-young dominated Max Heinzer. The team extended the lead to 8-3 as the next fencer, Kwon Young-jun, scored 4 points without conceding any. However, in the third round, Ma Se-gun lost momentum to Michel Nigler, and in the fourth round, Kwon Young-jun was overtaken by Heinzer, allowing Switzerland to take the lead. Park Sang-young scored 8 points in the fifth round to turn the match around. Nevertheless, the following fencers, Song Jae-ho and Kwon Young-jun, could not regain form, and the team fell behind 30-34.
In the final ninth round, Park Sang-young scored 14 points, creating a dramatic comeback. Using his speed, he overwhelmed Steffen Benjamin and scored continuously. With 41 seconds remaining, he tied the score at 36-36 and maintained momentum to seal the come-from-behind victory.
