Busan Police Agency Arrests One Main Suspect in 30s, Transfers Seven Accomplices

Busan Metropolitan Police Agency announced on the 30th that they arrested Mr. A, in his 30s, on charges including violation of the Special Act on the Prevention of Insurance Fraud, and referred the other seven members to the prosecution.
According to the police, Mr. A and others are accused of deliberately causing traffic accidents targeting only vehicles violating traffic regulations in Busan, Changwon, and Gimhae areas from January 2017 to last June, extorting 240 million won through 45 incidents by claiming insurance and settlement money.
They committed fraud by driving rental cars, deliberately causing accidents only with drivers who illegally changed lanes or violated signals, and then getting hospitalized.
It was investigated that Mr. A and two others, after being sent to prosecution for insurance fraud involving 40 incidents and about 220 million won, committed the same method five more times to claim an additional 20 million won in insurance payouts.
