Priority Supply of 1.3 Million Doses Around June 6-7 Next Month
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] More than 10 million doses of Moderna's COVID-19 vaccine will be delivered to South Korea next month. This quantity includes the originally allocated 8.5 million doses for August, plus 1.96 million doses that were postponed from this month.
According to the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters on the 30th, the total supply of Moderna vaccines in August will be 10.46 million doses, combining the August allocation and the postponed supply from July. Of the 1.96 million doses delayed from July and scheduled for August delivery, 1.3 million doses are expected to be supplied on August 6-7. The remaining doses will also be supplied within August.
The South Korean government contracted for 40 million doses of Moderna's COVID-19 vaccine this year. Up to July, 1.152 million doses have been supplied. After the 10.46 million doses arrive in August, the remaining over 28 million doses will be supplied from September through the end of the year.
The Moderna vaccines arriving next month are expected to be primarily used for the recently started vaccinations of people in their 50s. From the end of August, vaccinations for those aged 40 and below are anticipated, and the vaccine is expected to be used alongside Pfizer vaccines for these age groups.
