Launching the Probiotics Brand 'GQ Lab Series' Products in Q1 Next Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] Ildong Pharmaceutical has obtained individual recognition as a functional health food ingredient from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety for its self-developed ‘Bifidobacterium breve IDCC4401 (BBR4401) heat-treated cultured dried powder,’ acknowledging its functionality in improving blood cholesterol levels.
According to Ildong Pharmaceutical on the 30th, the BBR4401 heat-treated cultured dried powder physically binds to bile acids in the intestines, inducing their excretion and inhibiting their reabsorption. This process promotes the consumption of cholesterol in the body during bile acid synthesis in the liver, a mechanism consistently confirmed through in vitro and animal studies.
Based on this, a human application trial was conducted on 66 adult men and women with LDL cholesterol levels between 100 mg/dL and less than 150 mg/dL, classified as normal or borderline. The results showed a significant improvement in blood cholesterol levels. Divided into a control group, low-dose group, and high-dose group, participants consumed BBR4401 for 12 weeks. Both the low-dose and high-dose groups showed a statistically significant decrease in blood LDL cholesterol levels and apolipoprotein B levels compared to the control group. Improvements were also observed in total cholesterol and non-HDL cholesterol levels.
In addition to improving blood cholesterol, significant results were obtained regarding bowel habits, including reduced excessive straining during defecation, softer stools and watery diarrhea, and abdominal bloating.
Ildong Pharmaceutical has begun commercializing BBR4401 and plans to develop it as an individually recognized functional health food for cholesterol improvement, with a product launch scheduled in the first quarter of next year under its probiotic brand ‘GQ Lab Series.’
Previously, Ildong Pharmaceutical obtained individual recognition for the functional ingredient ‘RHT-3201,’ a lactic acid bacteria cultured dried powder that helps improve skin conditions caused by immune hypersensitivity reactions, and launched the product ‘GQ Lab Postbiotics RHT’ in September last year.
