[This Person] Chaehyunil, Yeongdeungpo-gu Mayor, Why Did He Patrol Outdoor Parks with the Public-Private Joint Patrol Team?

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Cha Hyun-il, the mayor of Yeongdeungpo District, along with members of the Volunteer Crime Prevention Unit, police officers, and public officials, gathered around Yeongdeungpo Park on the evening of the 27th wearing shoulder sashes.

As the spread of COVID-19 continues recently, the public and private sectors have joined forces to actively inspect and promote compliance with the strengthened quarantine rules at the site.

Yeongdeungpo District formed joint public-private patrol teams in each of the 18 neighborhood community centers, police substations, and volunteer crime prevention units. During the special quarantine period, they focused on inspecting vulnerable areas in each neighborhood, such as areas around stations with high concentrations of young and middle-aged people and outdoor parks.

The nighttime inspection, organized by the district office that day, was conducted together with the Yeongdeungpo Police Station and the Volunteer Crime Prevention Federation. The patrol teams were divided into groups of four to carry out guidance activities. Mayor Cha Hyun-il toured the Yeongdeungpo Park area with the patrol teams, distributing COVID-19 quarantine guidelines to residents and urging them to strictly follow the rules such as wearing masks, prohibiting outdoor drinking, and maintaining social distancing.

One volunteer crime prevention member who participated in the patrol said, “With the hope that COVID-19 will no longer spread, the members voluntarily united their intentions to participate in the quarantine activities,” and added, “I am glad to be able to join in protecting myself, my family, and my neighbors.”

Meanwhile, before the announcement on the 9th of the elevation to Level 4 social distancing in the metropolitan area, the district had proactively responded by immediately suspending operations of public multi-use facilities, expanding temporary screening clinics, and strengthening quarantine measures for facilities such as academies, private institutes, and study cafes within the region as part of comprehensive special quarantine measures.

Mayor Cha Hyun-il said, “I deeply thank the Volunteer Crime Prevention Unit, police officers, and staff who dedicate themselves with a strong sense of duty and service despite the extreme heat to protect the safety of our residents,” and added, “We will do our utmost in quarantine, proactive testing, and vaccination administration to overcome COVID-19 quickly and restore our precious daily lives.”
