50s Police Officer Dies Three Days After Vaccine Cross-Administration
Wife "Can't Believe Husband's Death"
[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] Recently, a police officer in his 50s who received a mixed COVID-19 vaccination died three days after the second dose, and the bereaved family has posted a national petition requesting a clear explanation of the cause of death.
The wife of Lieutenant A (52), affiliated with the Gumi Police Station in Gyeongbuk, posted a petition titled "Please reveal the cause of the unfair death of the first police officer who died after receiving mixed AstraZeneca and Pfizer COVID vaccines" on the Blue House national petition board on the 28th.
The petitioner stated, "My husband had no choice but to receive a mixed vaccination due to the shortage of AstraZeneca supply in Korea and to return to work quickly as a police officer," adding, "He was healthy without any underlying conditions, so I still cannot believe my husband's death."
She continued, "My husband, who was proud to serve the country and its people, experienced this tragedy, and I wanted to know if vaccine side effects were revealed through an autopsy, but neither the quarantine authorities nor the police gave a clear answer," expressing her frustration.
She strongly hopes that "my husband's death will not be simply dismissed as personal misfortune, but that the causal relationship due to vaccine side effects will be clarified," and earnestly appeals that "this case be recognized as an accident caused by 'vaccine side effects' and 'overwork due to official duty extension,' so that my husband can be promptly acknowledged as having died in the line of duty."
Furthermore, she added, "To my two young sons in middle school grades 2 and 1, who are plunged into despair and grief, I hope that my husband and father's death will not be in vain."
The petition received over 5,000 endorsements within a day and is currently set to private for administrator review.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant A died three days after receiving mixed AstraZeneca and Pfizer vaccines.
Lieutenant A received the first dose of AstraZeneca on April 28 and completed the second dose with Pfizer on the 17th of this month. At that time, he reportedly experienced abnormal reactions such as headache and chills.
Subsequently, Lieutenant A collapsed in the living room of his home around 2 a.m. on the 20th, was found by his family and transported to the hospital, but passed away about an hour later.
