[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] Professor Choi Sang-han of the Department of Public Administration at Gyeongsang National University in Jinju, Gyeongnam, has been appointed as the 12th President of the Korean Institute of Public Administration.
The National Research Council for Economics, Humanities and Social Sciences (NRC), under the Prime Minister, announced on the 29th that this decision was made at the 308th board meeting.
The new president's term is three years, and he will be evaluated annually by the NRC on management performance and research achievements.
President Choi has previously served as Vice Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Autonomy and Decentralization, Deputy Head of the Korean New Deal National Advisory Group under the Presidential Policy Planning Committee, Vice President of the Korean Local Government Association, Director of the Social Science Research Institute at Gyeongsang National University, and Vice President of the Korean Governmental Studies Association.
In addition, he received the Grand Prize in the field of local decentralization at the 6th Local Autonomy Awards ceremony held by the National Association of Mayors, County Governors, and District Heads in June, and was awarded the Order of Civil Merit, Mongnyeon Medal, at the 8th Local Autonomy Day ceremony last October.
President Choi stated, "I will do my best to contribute to the development of national administration by promoting exchange projects with domestic and international research institutions."
