[Wando=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Kyung-pil] Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that 5 COVID-19 cases were confirmed on the 28th and 1 case on the 29th.

Regarding the COVID-19 cases in Soan-myeon, a total of 27 confirmed cases occurred: 3 on the 23rd, 7 on the 24th, 3 on the 25th, 5 on the 26th, and 3 on the 27th.

After the confirmed cases appeared in Soan-myeon, the county conducted the first round of mass testing on approximately 1,700 residents, and considering the incubation period, the second round of mass testing has been underway since the 28th.

Those in self-quarantine are managed through a four-layer system involving Soan-myeon, the Health and Medical Center, the county office, and village chiefs. To discourage movement of Soan-myeon residents, village halls and senior centers have been closed, and passenger ships have prepared separate cabins exclusively for island residents.

Until now, Wando-gun had fewer confirmed cases compared to other regions, but the number of cases has increased over the past three weeks, with a total of 52 cases confirmed in July.

In response, Shin Woo-cheol, the mayor of Wando-gun, stated in a public address, "If we fail to overcome this critical moment, we will face a greater crisis," and earnestly requested, "Please always wear masks and practice social distancing wherever and whenever possible, and refrain as much as possible from visiting other regions, meeting outsiders, and attending various gatherings."
