[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hyowon] PHC (CEO Choi Inhwan) announced on the 29th that it has been selected as a participating institution in the Korea-Spain international joint research project for information and communication and broadcasting technology in 2021.
This international joint research is led by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Institute for Information & Communications Technology Planning & Evaluation, aiming to contribute to the activation of convergence research and development, strengthening global technological competitiveness, and creating new markets in information and communication and broadcasting through international joint research on core technologies in the Korea-Spain ICT and broadcasting convergence industry.
The lead institution for the Korean side is KAIST, with participating institutions PHC and Soonchunhyang University. On the Spanish side, the project is led by SYLtec, an AI company in Spain, with healthcare AI company connecthink participating.
The Korean project is titled "Research and Development of a Personalized Healthcare Platform Using Artificial Intelligence," focusing on developing a platform that provides potential disease prediction and personalized health solutions using personal health information, exercise, posture, dietary habits, and periodic diagnostic information. The research and development period is within three years, with an annual development budget of up to 900 million KRW.
PHC is responsible for establishing the data collection environment, API development, collecting users' biometric data, developing platform-based mobile apps, and evaluating and improving platform usability and accessibility in this project.
As the healthcare sector is rapidly digitalizing like other industries, it is expected that PHC's business capabilities will be significantly expanded through this project.
A PHC representative stated, "Being selected as a target company for this international joint research project has provided an opportunity to focus more on healthcare big data collection and analysis, as well as platform development."
Meanwhile, PHC has been strengthening its capabilities related to smart medical care as part of the post-COVID-19 business. It is conducting research and development centered around Wonju Medical Device Technovalley to develop non-face-to-face medical services and is engaged in tablet PC projects for visiting nurses and remote medical consultation app export projects. Additionally, it recently signed a business agreement with E-Land for cooperation in digital healthcare business and is preparing to launch the Smart Care Zone.
