Democratic Party to Yoo Seung-min: "The era of North wind manipulation is over... Your imagination is astonishing"

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Cheol-eung] The Democratic Party of Korea criticized former lawmaker Yoo Seung-min, saying, "The era when 'Bukpung Gongjak' (North wind operation) works is over."

Kim Jin-wook, spokesperson for the Democratic Party, said in a written briefing on the 29th, "Former lawmaker Yoo Seung-min made claims reminiscent of 'Bukpung Gongjak,' saying 'North Korea must not interfere in our presidential election.' His imagination that the restoration of communication lines between the South and the North could lead to election interference is truly astonishing."

He continued, "It is regrettable how Yoo Seung-min, who once shouted 'Unification Jackpot' together at the New Year's dinner of the Park Geun-hye administration, has changed like this. During the Lee Myung-bak and Park Geun-hye administrations created by the People Power Party, not a single inter-Korean summit was held. Yet, if the People Power Party pushes for dialogue, it is called dialogue, but if the Democratic Party government does, it is called an operation?"

He added, "I am curious about what kind of inter-Korean relations former lawmaker Yoo Seung-min truly desires. Also, I hope he will provide specific plans on how to pursue peace on the Korean Peninsula while excluding dialogue and communication."

Spokesperson Kim criticized, "‘Bukpung Gongjak’ no longer works. It is the responsibility of the political circles to make every effort to turn the Korean Peninsula into a peaceful place free from the threat of war," adding, "Irresponsible agitation only confirms the inconsistency of former lawmaker Yoo Seung-min, who is desperate due to stagnant approval ratings."

He concluded, "The Democratic Party of Korea will actively support the Moon Jae-in administration's Korean Peninsula Peace Process for the peaceful reunification of the Republic of Korea and peace in Northeast Asia. Furthermore, we will not tolerate any Bukpung Gongjak for the peace of the Korean Peninsula."
