On this day, former Minister Chu announced these details at the National Assembly Communication Office, presenting "New Generation Peace" as her second pledge.
Former Minister Chu stated, "Our youth should not be the 3-po, 5-po, N-po generations suffering from polarization and inequality, but should be raised as global citizens with heightened self-esteem on the hopeful land that peace will bring, the Korean Peninsula," and presented a total of five detailed pledges related to this.
First, former Minister Chu announced the establishment of a "Youth Peace Fund" worth 200 billion KRW, aiming to expand it to 1 trillion KRW during her term.
She said, "This fund will be dedicated to supporting exchanges and cooperation between South and North Korean youth, supporting 'technology commercialization projects,' 'future new growth industries such as the 4th Industrial Revolution,' 'climate crisis response activities,' and 'research and development projects' jointly promoted by youth from both Koreas." She added that through this fund, "opportunities for challenges and failures for South and North Korean youth will be guaranteed, as well as the rewards for success."
She also pledged to select regional and occupational representatives from both South and North Korea to hold the annual "Korean Peninsula Youth Summit" in major cities such as Seoul and Pyongyang, Busan and Kaesong.
Former Minister Chu explained, "We will raise international interest and attention on the Korean Peninsula issue," and added, "The South and North Korean governments will make every effort to accept and implement the decisions made and jointly declared at the summit through intergovernmental consultations."
Furthermore, she plans to provide exchange student programs for talented individuals from specialized universities in various fields, such as Seoul National University and Kim Il-sung University, Pohang University of Science and Technology and Kim Chaek University of Technology, Korea National University of Arts and Pyongyang University of Arts, to broaden mutual understanding and empathy.
In addition, she proposed hosting the "South-North Youth Olympics" and forming the "Korean Peninsula History and Culture Youth University Student Exploration Team." She also pledged to implement a "Youth Employment Quota System" mandating at least 5% employment for youth in domestic companies entering the market through South-North economic cooperation to create youth jobs.
Former Minister Chu said, "We must ensure that building a Korean Peninsula peace economic community becomes an opportunity for quality jobs as well as challenges and hope for future youth generations," and added, "The government and older generations must roll up their sleeves and take action so that our youth can transcend the war and division generations and become the 'peace generation.'"
