Smilegate invests 120 billion KRW in US developer 'That’s No Moon'


Smilegate Group announced on the 29th that it has invested approximately $100 million (about 120 billion KRW) in the US-based developer That`s no Moon.


That`s no Moon, based in California, USA, was founded by star developer Michael Mumbauer. Michael Mumbauer has over 13 years of experience at Sony Interactive Entertainment America and is a veteran developer who has participated in various global hits such as The Last of Us 2, Ghost of Tsushima, Death Stranding, God of War, and the Uncharted series. Other key developers also worked as core developers on hit titles like Call of Duty and The Last of Us at world-renowned studios Naughty Dog and Infinity Ward.


Through this agreement, the two companies plan to develop a new AAA action-adventure game based on That`s no Moon’s development capabilities. Smilegate emphasized that following the establishment of its Barcelona, Spain branch, this contract brings them one step closer to the GOTY (Game of the Year) award. That`s no Moon is currently expanding its development team and has begun research and development (R&D) and concept design work for the new game.


Kim Hyung-nam, Director at Smilegate, said, "Based on That`s no Moon’s excellent development capabilities, we expect to present a completely new game experience that players have never encountered before, delivering fun and emotion to game fans worldwide." Michael Mumbauer, CEO of That`s no Moon, stated, "By combining Smilegate’s business expertise with our technical skills and unique strengths, we will create an unprecedented game loved globally."
