Gyeongsangnam-do announced on the 28th at 5 p.m. that 100 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been reported.


By region, there are 48 in Changwon, 25 in Gimhae, 8 in Geoje, 5 each in Yangsan and Hamyang, 3 in Sacheon, and 1 each in Miryang, Geoje, Tongyeong, Haman, Changnyeong, and Hapcheon.


Among the confirmed cases, 62 were infected through contact with confirmed cases within the province, and 3 were infected through contact with confirmed cases from the metropolitan area or other regions.


There were 9 additional confirmed cases related to a manufacturing workplace in Changwon and 5 additional cases related to a nightlife establishment in Masan, Changwon. Most of the confirmed cases related to the Changwon manufacturing workplace are foreign workers from China, Pakistan, and Vietnam. The cumulative number of confirmed cases related to the Changwon manufacturing workplace is 20.


Regarding the nightlife establishment in Masan, Changwon, 4 confirmed cases in Changwon and 1 confirmed case in Changnyeong were added, bringing the cumulative total to 84. The infection route for 21 cases is under investigation.


Accordingly, the total cumulative confirmed cases in the province have increased to 6,933 (1,082 hospitalized, 5,832 discharged, 19 deceased).


Meanwhile, Yangsan City has extended the ban on gatherings at 506 locations including nightlife facilities, colatecs, dance halls, holdem pubs, and karaoke rooms, which had been implemented since the 23rd, until August 8 to curb the rise in confirmed cases.


The Gyeongnam provincial quarantine authorities are enforcing mandatory mask-wearing and prohibiting drinking and eating at 137 major tourist sites such as beaches, parks, and valleys as part of special quarantine measures for the summer vacation season. Additionally, a 'mobile screening clinic' has been set up in Jeonggok-ri, Nakseo-myeon, Uiryeong-gun to conduct diagnostic testing.


Kwon Yang-geun, Director of the Welfare and Health Bureau, urged, "For this summer vacation, we recommend minimizing travel and gatherings as much as possible, and if travel is unavoidable, to do so in family units or small groups and to stagger the timing." He also requested, "Facility managers should ventilate naturally for more than 10 minutes every 2 hours when operating air conditioning."
