Cumulative Number of Confirmed COVID-19 Cases Among Olympic and Paralympic Officials Reaches 169
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Je-hoon] The number of new COVID-19 cases in Tokyo, Japan, where the Tokyo Olympics are currently underway, has surpassed the highest record for two consecutive days, NHK reported on the 28th.
According to NHK, Tokyo metropolitan authorities announced that the number of new COVID-19 cases in the city was counted at 3,177 on that day. This broke the previous record of 2,848 cases from the day before, marking the highest record for two consecutive days.
The average number of COVID-19 cases over the week (22nd?28th) was 1,954.7, a 53% increase compared to the previous week. This is also the highest record ever, surpassing January 11th, when Japan experienced its third wave of COVID-19.
Meanwhile, the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Organizing Committee announced that 16 more individuals related to the Olympics and Paralympics tested positive for COVID-19 on that day. Since July 1st, the cumulative number of COVID-19 cases related to the Olympics and Paralympics has reached 169.
