[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jang Hwikuk, Superintendent of Education for Gwangju Metropolitan City, expressed strong support for the restoration of the inter-Korean communication line, calling it "a refreshing rain of peace that cools the heatwave."
In a statement on the 28th, Superintendent Jang said, "Confrontation only intensifies the suffering of our people, and only by joining hands and seeking peace can we break the long-repeated cycle of pain. The path that the South and North must take is clear. It is to seek ways for peace on the Korean Peninsula through sincere dialogue and to dream together of the day we become one again."
He continued, "The restoration of the inter-Korean communication line is significant as it marks the beginning of resumed dialogue. For the winds of peace to blow again on the Korean Peninsula, the prompt restoration of relations and trust between the South and North is urgently needed," emphasizing, "I hope that the restoration of the inter-Korean communication line will serve as a new turning point in inter-Korean relations and that eternal peace will finally be established on the Korean Peninsula."
He added, "The Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education will strengthen peace and unification education so that our students can become the leaders of the era of inter-Korean harmony, and will actively engage in inter-Korean educational exchange projects."
