[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The funeral of Captain Kim Hong-bin, who completed climbing all 14 Himalayan peaks and went missing during his descent, will be held from the 4th to the 8th of next month at the Gwangju Yeomju Gymnasium.
The Gwangju City Accident Response Committee held its 3rd meeting on the 28th to discuss and decide on the funeral arrangements for 'Captain Kim Hong-bin.'
The funeral will be conducted as a 'mountaineer’s funeral' organized by Korea’s representative mountaineering organizations, the Korea Alpine Federation and the Gwangju City Mountaineering Federation, to honor the achievements of Korea’s leading mountaineer Captain Kim Hong-bin and reflect his family’s wishes.
Son Jung-ho, president of the Korea Alpine Federation, will serve as the funeral committee chairman. The funeral committee members are currently being formed from the Korea Alpine Federation and the Gwangju City Mountaineering Federation, and a 'practical support team' will be operated to assist with the funeral.
The incense-burning altar will be set up in the lobby on the first floor of the Gwangju Yeomju Gymnasium, and the farewell ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. on the 6th of next month.
To convey the mourning hearts of many mountaineers and citizens honoring Captain Kim amid the COVID-19 situation, major institutions such as Gwangju City and the Korea Alpine Federation plan to establish and operate separate 'cyber memorial spaces' on each institution’s website during the funeral period.
