Hong Jun-pyo Criticizes Lee Jae-myung and Yoon Seok-youl Controversy... "Never Seen Such a Ugly Presidential Election Like This One"

[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Hong Jun-pyo, a presidential candidate from the People Power Party, on the 28th mentioned ‘Sushinje-ga (修身齊家)’ and demanded that presidential candidates including former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol and Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung directly clarify suspicions related to their families and close associates.

Through social media (SNS) on the same day, Hong criticized, "I have participated in five presidential elections since I started politics, but I have never seen such an ugly election where policies are missing and among the ruling and opposition presidential candidates, one is at the center of controversy due to family insults and an actress scandal, and another due to a family scandal."

The family insults and actress scandal are presumed to refer to Lee Jae-myung, and the family scandal to former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol.

Hong said, "In the example of the U.S. presidential election, even a single photo of riding a yacht with a woman other than one’s spouse can cause a candidate to drop out midway, showing how strict the morality of a president is," adding, "The first qualification for a president is Sushinje-ga. It is laughable even to passing cows that someone who cannot manage their own conduct and family affairs claims they will govern the country and bring peace to the world."

He continued, "The two presidential candidates involved in the issues should not just excuse it as negativity but personally come forward to explain to the public and end the controversy," and "I hope they will strive to make this a proper policy election that presents a 100-year blueprint for the future of the Republic of Korea."

Hong said, "As someone running in the same presidential race, I am ashamed and embarrassed to even raise my head before the people."
