[Asia Economy Reporter Ji-hwan Park] Samsung Securities announced on the 28th that it has become the first domestic securities company to receive an 'A' rating in the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) evaluation conducted by Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI), a global investment information provider.
MSCI evaluates listed companies worldwide every year by dividing topics into each area: Environment, Social Responsibility, and Governance, assessing 35 key issues. Based on the evaluation results, it assigns ratings on a seven-level scale from AAA to CCC.
Samsung Securities achieved the highest A rating among domestic securities firms, rising one level from BBB last year.
Since 1999, MSCI has conducted ESG index evaluations. MSCI's ESG index is regarded as one of the most credible indices globally. The fund management assets tracking MSCI's ESG index exceed 100 billion dollars.
A Samsung Securities official stated, "We believe it is significant to be the first domestic securities company to receive an MSCI A rating," adding, "We will continue to strive to be recognized worldwide."
