[Gochang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeonbuk Gochang-gun (Governor Yu Gisang) is receiving great responses from farmers by pioneering the establishment of a ‘Farm Machinery Cleaning and Disinfection System’ to prevent the spread of soil pathogens through rental farm machinery.
According to the county on the 28th, soil-borne pathogens are widely distributed in the soil and are known to overwinter in diseased plant residues or soil, causing infections the following year.
In particular, caution is needed as the soil attached to farm machinery can also spread pathogens to other farmlands.
The county thoroughly cleans the farm machinery and carries out sterilization and disinfection harmless to humans, preparing it for the next farmer to use.
The farm machinery cleaning and disinfection facilities are installed at three locations: the main office of the county farm machinery rental business (Gochang-eup), the western region (Haeri-myeon), and the southern region (Daesan-myeon).
An additional facility will be installed in the northern region (Heungdeok-myeon), scheduled for completion by the end of this year.
The county plans to deploy about 900 units of 57 types of farm machinery across four regional farm machinery rental offices by the end of the year.
Through this, a comprehensive service center will be established where farm machinery can be rented within 15 minutes anywhere in Gochang, providing rental and transportation services.
An official from the Agricultural Technology Center said, “This not only solves the problem of cleaning farm machinery but is also expected to greatly help reduce soil-borne diseases in the field,” adding, “We will listen more closely to the voices of farmers and support a more convenient and efficient farm machinery rental business.”
