Pohang 'Hydrogen Fuel Cell Certification Center' Obtains KOLAS Accredited Testing Laboratory Recognition

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Pohang City announced on the 28th that the Pohang Hydrogen Fuel Cell Certification Center was recognized as an accredited testing institution for hydrogen fuel cell systems by KOLAS (Korea Laboratory Accreditation Scheme) and held a plaque ceremony on the 27th.


On the same day, the city also signed a business agreement for the joint promotion of 'Hydrogen Fuel Cell System Demonstration and Certification Support' with Gyeongbuk Province, Pohang Technopark, FCI Co., Ltd., STX Energy Solution Co., Ltd., and K-CeraCell Co., Ltd.


The event was attended by Lee Kang-deok, Mayor of Pohang, Song Kyung-chang, Head of the East Coast Regional Headquarters of Gyeongbuk Province, Lee Jeom-sik, Director of Pohang Technopark, Lee Tae-won, CEO of FCI, Lee Dong-won, CEO of STX Energy Solution, and Lim Kyung-tae, CEO of K-CeraCell, and included plaque presentation, business agreement signing, and a tour of the certification center.


The Pohang Hydrogen Fuel Cell Certification Center was recognized as an accredited testing institution in the energy efficiency field of electrical testing by KOLAS. Accordingly, the certification center can now issue accredited test reports for two standards among the basic performance evaluation items of PEMFC (Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cell) systems under 10 kW: power generation efficiency test and array recovery efficiency test.


KOLAS is a national system that officially recognizes that an institution possesses a quality system and technical capability that meet international standards, based on the 'Framework Act on National Standards' and the 'Operation Guidelines for Accreditation of Conformity Assessment Bodies' (ISO/IEC Guide).


Lee Kang-deok, Mayor of Pohang, emphasized, "With the designation of the Pohang Hydrogen Fuel Cell Certification Center as a KOLAS accredited testing institution, we have established a foundation to demonstrate and certify fuel cell systems. We will actively strive to help companies secure localization of fuel cell parts and materials and enhance technological competitiveness to grow."


Meanwhile, through this business agreement, Pohang City and Gyeongbuk Province will provide administrative support for the demonstration and certification of hydrogen fuel cell systems, and Pohang Technopark will support system demonstration and certification using the Hydrogen Fuel Cell Certification Center.
