Gyeonggi Office of Education to Improve Teacher Training Programs

[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education is revolutionizing teacher training education.

On the 28th, the Gyeonggi Office of Education announced that it will reorganize and operate the current teacher education system to enhance teacher capabilities by ▲ operating regional base training centers ▲ discovering and expanding training institutions ▲ operating regional councils.

Until now, the teacher training system was operated by each institution, requiring teachers in the province to travel to the respective institutions to attend desired training, making it difficult to take training reflecting regional characteristics and needs near their area.

Accordingly, the Gyeonggi Office of Education will operate the Gyeonggi Education Training Institute and six other training centers as base training centers, and each training center will collaborate with 4 to 5 nearby education support offices to operate training for enhancing regional teacher capabilities and provide customized training visiting the field.

With this training system innovation, the '2022 Principal Qualification Training' will also operate five base training centers to improve accessibility for trainees and secure training efficiency and effectiveness.

To ensure equal training quality, the central training center will design a standard plan for joint training courses and share programs and instructor pools with other institutions.

The Gyeonggi Office of Education will also work to discover and expand external training institutions such as regional universities, companies, and research institutes to operate training reflecting field demands.

The Gyeonggi Office of Education plans to promote business agreements with external training institutions and operate councils where these institutions, base training centers, and education support offices collaborate from the training planning stage, aiming to pilot regional-based teacher training from September.

Ko Hyo-sun, head of the Teacher Capability Development Division at the Gyeonggi Office of Education, emphasized, "It is time to find a new path for the teacher training system reflecting the rapidly changing educational environment due to COVID-19," adding, "We will actively cooperate with various specialized institutions so that teachers can easily learn and grow nearby to enhance the capabilities they need."
