The spread of COVID-19 is intensifying again in South Korea.


According to the quarantine authorities, Seoul city, and other local governments on the 27th, from midnight to 9 p.m. nationwide, 1,712 new confirmed COVID-19 cases were reported. This is 493 more than the 1,219 cases reported at the same time the previous day.


It is also 31 more than the 1,681 cases reported at the same time on Tuesday (the 20th) last week. Excluding the 1,726 cases on the 21st, when 270 confirmed cases from the Cheonghae unit were simultaneously reflected, this is the highest number recorded at 9 p.m. since the current '4th wave.'


Looking at the regions where confirmed cases have been reported so far, the metropolitan area accounts for 1,165 cases (68.0%), and non-metropolitan areas account for 547 cases (32.0%). By city and province: Seoul 563, Gyeonggi 502, Incheon 100, Busan 96, Daejeon 71, Gyeongnam 62, Gangwon 61, Daegu 55, Chungbuk 40, Gyeongbuk 33, Chungnam 31, Gwangju and Jeju 23 each, Jeonbuk 19, Jeonnam 14, Ulsan 12, and Sejong 7.


The number of new confirmed cases to be announced at midnight on the 28th is expected to be around 1,800. If it exceeds 1,842 (as of midnight on the 22nd), it will set a new record.
