[Asia Economy Reporter Donghyun Choi] Lee Da-bin (25, Seoul City Hall) advanced to the final of the women's over 67kg taekwondo event at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, aiming for South Korea's first gold medal in taekwondo.

On the 27th, Lee Da-bin won 25-24 against Bianca Walkden (30, United Kingdom) in the women's over 67kg taekwondo semifinal held at Makuhari Messe, Chiba, Japan during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

The match was not easy. The scores were exchanged back and forth, and near the end of the third round, Lee was trailing 22-24, and it seemed the match would end that way. However, Lee did not give up. With one second left in the match, she successfully landed a head kick with her left foot on Bianca, achieving a thrilling comeback.

Lee Da-bin will challenge for South Korea's first taekwondo gold medal and the Grand Slam in the final, scheduled for 9:30 PM that day. Lee achieved back-to-back victories at the 2014 Incheon and 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games, and also claimed titles at the 2019 Manchester World Championships and the 2016 Manila Asian Championships in the 73kg category. Winning the Olympic gold medal will complete her Grand Slam.

In the men's taekwondo 80kg category, In Gyo-don (29, Korea Gas Corporation), who also reached the semifinals, lost 6-12 to Gjorgjievski (North Macedonia). In Gyo-don will compete in the bronze medal match.
