[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province has secured an additional 82 dedicated infectious disease beds in preparation for an increase in COVID-19 confirmed cases.
On the 27th, Gyeonggi Province announced that it had secured an additional 82 dedicated infectious disease beds last week, including 42 at Ilsan Hospital and 40 at Gyeonggi Provincial Medical Center Anseong Hospital. The province plans to secure an additional 73 beds at Gyeonggi Provincial Medical Center Icheon Hospital within this week. It is also preparing to open one more residential treatment center in response to the increase in confirmed cases.
To prepare for a surge in confirmed cases, the province has also established a dedicated task force (TF) for operating the home care system. Led by Im Seung-kwan, director of Gyeonggi Provincial Medical Center Anseong Hospital, the team consists of 30 medical personnel and 6 administrative staff.
On the 27th, Ryu Young-chul, director of the Gyeonggi Province Health and Wellness Bureau, held a regular press conference and explained, "Considering the recent increase in confirmed cases, the current medical institutions and residential treatment center beds are expected to be insufficient, so we have secured additional dedicated beds and residential treatment centers."
Meanwhile, as of 8 p.m. on the 26th, the total number of beds secured by medical institutions in the province, including general and severe patient beds, is 1,652, with a bed occupancy rate of 85% (1,398 beds).
As of midnight on the 27th, the number of confirmed cases in the province increased by 375 from the previous day, totaling 53,839. The daily average number of new confirmed cases in the province has recorded over 350 for three consecutive weeks. However, the fatality rate in the province has been steadily decreasing since it recorded 1.02% in April. There were 8 deaths in July, with a fatality rate of 0.08%.
